Short Sleeves (Week of 9/22)

Hey yall, this week in shop was very short. Only really 2 and a half full working days, so sorry if this week's blog is a bit short. I only worked on the book sleeve and a bit on my next project.

Last Friday, I cut out a test for the book sleeve out of cardboard to I could make sure it fit before moving on to wood. The book didn't fit into the sleeve nicely as the sleeve itself was too short. So, coming in Monday I had to change the measurements so it was taller. Only a little though, as everything else was fine. Changing the measurements via the parameters in Fusion kinda broke a lot of things with the model, so I had to spend the rest of Monday fixing it. It was only 2 periods due to us having gym every Monday.

The following day, I cut out the new measurements to test-fit it and it fitted perfectly. I was going to move onto the wood final, but I got hit with a idea for my next project and decided to just model it that day. With October coming up and my tendinitis to go all out with Halloween costumes, I wanted to make another weapons prop like the few I made last year. It's a simple katana, but I want to use way less hot glue this year for projects, so I had to think of ways to connect everything nicely and not make it too obvious. That katana model took the rest of Tuesday, but at least I can jump right into making it after the book sleeve is done.

I had some scholarship things to do Wednesday, so I did't go to school but coming back Thursday, I hit the ground running. I just need to finish up the design of the sleeve itself and cut and wood glue everything together. After finding a font similar to the one on the book going into the sleeve, I added the book title and author to the front and spine of the sleeve. The symbols I added on the front and spine too a bit of time to finish, as I needed to outline them via Inkscape's vector lines, Inkscape really doesn't like it if you use curved lines created anywhere outside of their software. That took basically all of Thursday and by the time I was ready to start cutting it out of wood, the bell had rung so no time. The Senior class has a field trip Friday, so I wouldn't be in shop for the entire day. I plan on finishing, or at least get everything glued so the glue can dry overnight by next Monday and getting started on my prop katana.

As I am running out of space to upload images in Wix, I will be posting my images in a Google doc and linking it at the end of my post until I can find a way to get more storage space. The Images
