Hello everyone! This week was another very short week of school, only two work days! This was mainly due to the snowstorm that hit Boston over the weekend. the aftermath was so bad that the school shut down for two days and no-one could get anywhere. Anyways, these two days were spent starting a new project, specifically another prop project. I wanted something that I could bang out within a few weeks and I was itching to create another prop. With the overview over, let's delve into this (very) short week!
Starting the week off on Wednesday, Mr.L asked me to make a cube for Metal Fab. They just wanted a simple 2.75in x 2.52 cube with a 2in hole going down the middle. Also they wanted it split in half, like a sorta mold I guess. It didn't long to model it at all, the print itself was a bit long like around an hour. Fusion also got a big update over the impromptu break. Fusion was an originally top-down 3d modeling software and that's the way we were taught to model. A Top-Down 3d modeling is when you kept everything for a project in one file but there's another, more widely used version which is Bottom-Up 3d modeling. That is basically the opposite of Top-Down, you create different "part" files for the different pieces of a project and than you import them all to one big file for assembly. I'm still just using Top-Down version of the files since that's what we were taught.
I finally figured out my next project, and since we wouldn't have much time this week to do anything, I figured that a prop would be the perfect project. The prop is a sickle that can fold into a sorta brass-knuckle like thing. There's going to be two of them that you can click together. The modeling of the sickle was a bit tricky as sickle blades are hard to make look right. I just took a screenshot of one of my reference pictures and trace that in fusion. I'm still trying to figure out the turning mechanism. I cut the PVC pipes I'm going to use as the handles into the right length, just was a quick 10 minute thing. I'm pretty sure that I can get the model done by Friday and start making it.
