Music Model (Week of 2/2)

Hello Everyone! We're back to having full weeks of school, so I had an (almost) full week in shop. I was out Wednesday due to a cold but progress was made on the sickles and I got to a fun side project for the music department. We do have a week-long break coming up, so I do plan on getting the sickles done before than; we'll see if I can stick to that plan. Enough pre-ramble, let's dive into the week!

Starting off on Monday, I finished off the Sickle model. I added a small ring/hook near the bottom as I do want to make two of these sickles, I'm just trying to figure out if I should connect them with 3d printed chains for some style points or just string for the easier route. I also upgraded the connector so it could fit better into the already cut PVC pipes. I laser cutter the current size of the blade to do a quick size test to see if It would it and the blade was way too big, and it also wouldn't fold correctly. I needed to down size the blade and maybe to whole model for it be a usable length. I also cutted 2 more PVC pipes but longer, because I wasn't if I like the longer handles for the shorter handles when the two where connected. The bell rang before I could get anything else done, but I did label which PVC pipes were which.

Tuesday was a bit of size quest day, as the music department in the school needed someone to fix their electric bass. It was a bit tricky to look at what was wrong with the wires within due to them being really close together. After looking at them for a bit, I soldered what I thought was the correct way. Mr.Christy wanted me to double check before handing it back, which was a task and a half. I found the exact model of the bass but couldn't for the life of me find a useful manual that explained how the bass was supposed to be wired. I looked at a bunch of different wire diagram for basses that only had a tune nob and volume nob, as the bass I was working on only had those two nobs. The current way I had the wires soldered was wrong and when I went to go fix it, my re-soldering cause other parts to become un-soldered. So I had to re-solder almost half of the bass just to fix my earlier attempt. I did managed to get it done and bring it back to the music department. We tested it there and thankfully it worked.

That Bass took all of Tuesday to fix and I was out Wednesday, so Thursday is where I did more progress on the sickles. I first fixed the size of the blade and tested it again but it was to small for the handles, even the smallest handles. So again, I changed the size and tested it out and it was almost the prefect size, but the little sharp tip of the sickle was too far forwards and I had to reshape it back in CAD. I was able to finish changing the model but unfortunately the laser-cutting was being used for the rest of shop and I couldn't use the 3d printer to print the connector. If these machines are open Friday, I should be able to get the basics of the sickle done and move onto the next step of the project.
