Costume Work (Week of 10/14)

Hello All! This week in shop was fairly simple(and a bit short) as I only really worked on the costume props. A lot of research, printing, and not much talking, so let's dive into this week.

We didn't have school Monday, so starting off Tuesday I finally finished the Mask model. It did take most of Tuesday to finish as the Fusion Mesh editor was a bit glitchy on me, but it only added a few more minutes of work. Mr.L helped me with Preform and the Resin printer as I was having trouble with them last week. Only one of the resin printers was picked up by Preform on my computer when both should be available. The problem fixed itself after resetting both printers, me and Mr.L have no idea what happened but they were fixed! I was able to starting printing the horns but had a backup print ready to go if they happened to be a bit small. Like all resin prints, they wouldn't be done before school ended for the day.

The following day the Horns were done printing, so I could move them to the wash and UV cure stations we have. While they were curing, I worked on the last piece of my costume that needed to be custom made; a mechanical tail. Much worked needed/could be done in shop for the tail, I just needed to make the end pieces and I could salvage the material for the tail itself from other things/knickknacks that I have just laying around my house. I started figuring out the measurements for that and the CAD model while I was waiting for the Horns to finish curing. It was near the end of the day when I was able to grab them. The supports were difficult to get off and when I did get them off, they made the horns feel rough. I started to shave off the rised bumps and edges, but I didn't get that far.

Coming in Thursday, I finished smoothing off the horns until they at a point where I liked how they felt. Giving them a base coat of white spray-paint, I started to resin print the Mask while waiting for the first coat of paint to dry. Again, the mask would be done printing until Friday, so I'll work on finish it then. I also finished up the model for the Tail ends. I added a little ring to the bottom of the piece that suppose to look like it's floating so I could tie everything together on the tail and give it some weight. I couldn't print out the Tail pieces as some other shopmates were using the Bambu printer. Near the end of the day, I finished painting the horns their bright blue color., but I'm leaving them drying overnight. Hopefully, I can finish most of these props Friday. Though, it's highly likely that some work will bleed into next week.
