Before Break (Week of 4/14)

Hello Everyone! This week was a small break from the Mechanical Clock and also a bit of shortened week for me as I was out Monday. Very little progress made on the clock when I did work on it but I was able to finish my Teacher's gift as well as make something for my parents as their birthdays are over the break next week. I don't have much else to talk about in the preview, so let's dive into this short week of Shop!

Starting off on Tuesday, I checked on my teacher's pencil holder as I spray-painted it white last Friday. It was fine, and the painted dried well. I just touched up the body of the holder as I missed some spots. I also finished getting all the gears for the clock labeled and sorted within a folder on my Drive, Which took some time as I mislabeled some of them from last week and I had to go back and check hat they were supposed to be labeled as. I tired to print out my gears that day. I'm going to 3d print them as resin printing them would take too long and use up way too much resin. I went to print them out but I found out that the escapement was way to small, even compared to the other gears. I deiced to size all the gears up a bit because while I do want everything to be compact, if I make everything too small, nothing will work. Changing the size meant that I had to go back and fix the supports as they were now the wrong size, as well as changing the placement of a few gears. A lot of people needed to use the 3d printer so I just deiced that I'll print them out Friday before we leave or do it after break.

Wednesday was a day I spent working on a gift for both my parents and hot gluing most of the pencil holder parts together. I plan on painting the pencil holder at the Maker-Space in the local public library as they have better paint than I do. Since I didn't want to make anything big for my parents, given that we only have a week in shop before break, I settled on making them wooden/acrylic keychains. Two layers of 1/8 wood with a 1/8 piece of acrylic inbetween them so that's not so flat or boring. Given that I was making them matching keychains, I kept the sketch for mostly the same. The only difference was that my Ma had a sun and my Dad had a moon on the back. I was able to get my Ma's keychain fully modeled and cut out on the laser cutter that same day but key-ring I 3d printed was too large for the ring hole, so I had to go back and size that hole. On Thursday, I was able to finish laser-cutting the updated keychain for my Ma, but I wasn't able the to cut out my Father's keychain. It's fully modeled, the laser-cutter was just being used a lot that day. I plan on finishing the keychain Friday. I have everyone has a great break and I'll see you all in two weeks!
